Old World Coffee Tables
Coffee tables can be much more than four legs and a wood or glass top. They can make a statement about who you are and what interests you. That’s because today’s coffee tables often look more like the luggage of old, long before baggage weight limits at airports. Steamer trunks, large chests and hope chests long filled the role of transporting goods across country and around the world. And while a TSA agent would look aghast at you trying to check in a large steamer trunk for your flight today, these pieces can make great coffee tables in your home, showing off your love of adventure, travel and the exotic ports of calls you either already visited or hope to visit. Of course, an authentic steamer trunk or chest may be out of your price range, and more likely too big for your space anyway. But not to worry, designers have ripped a page out of the history books and created coffee tables that look and often function just like these traditional methods of carting your worldly possessions around.

Making Your Home Unique
Why should your home be unique? How can you make your own home different from everyone else’s? What would your “lifestyle choices” be? These questions and many others are covered in this article. Although everyone is different, and one person’s idea of uniqueness may not be the same as another’s, in this article I hope I can give you a few ideas on how to tailor your own home to your tastes, and hopefully get your creative juices flowing. Although I am neither a home designer nor an interior designer, I did try to answer these very questions back in 2001 when I designed and built my own house in Fareham, Hampshire. Prior to my house build, when I was searching for a suitable building plot, I had a very good idea of what I wanted and what I didn’t want, but, tempered (as always) by budgetary constraints and a fair helping of practicality, my ideas changed over time, so that by the time the build started I had a more relaxed view, and had in my mind “guidelines”, rather than “must-haves”. Let’s have a look at “Making your home unique”.
